asked His Majesty's Government to give the following information regarding the afforestation schemes being undertaken by the Forestry Commission—

  1. (1) The plantable area acquired up to date in Great Britain and Scotland respectively;
  2. 862
  3. (2) the area planted to date in Great Britain and Scotland respectively;
  4. (3) the number of forest workers holdings completed and in progress in Great Britain and Scotland respectively; and
  5. (4) in each case say how far this complies with the usual factor of 11/80th in the allocation of grants to Scotland.

I have been asked to reply.

  1. (1) The plantable area acquired by the Commission in Great Britain (apart from the Crown Woods of which some 60,000 acres are carrying timber or are under forestal treatment) amounts to 281,981 acres of which 120,374 are in Scotland. 11/80ths of 281,981 is 38,772.
  2. (2) The area planted by the Commission in Great Britain amounts to 123,780 acres of which 38,656 are in Scotland. 11/80ths of 123,730 is 17,020.
  3. (3) The number of forest workers holdings completed and in progress in Great Britain is 804 of which 202 are in Scotland. 11/80ths of 804 is 110.
