HC Deb 04 February 1929 vol 224 cc1424-5W
Mr. LUNN

asked the President of the Board of Education what is the total amount of money handed over to the Lord Mayor's Fund for the relief of distress in mining areas from the national Exchequer?

Lord E. PERCY

The total amount paid into the Lord Mayor's Fund from the Exchequer is £150,000.

Mr. LUNN

asked the President of the Board of Education what amount of money from the Lord Mayor's Fund has been sent to the West Riding of Yorkshire for the relief of distress amongst the miners in that area; and whether any of the money, and what amount up to the latest date, has been distributed amongst those in need?

Lord E. PERCY

Advances from the Lord Mayor's Fund to the West Riding Divisional Committee amounted on 1st February to £7,500. In this, as in other areas, the divisional committee, after its formation on 15th January, has had to organise its own machinery of distribution, and reasonable time must be allowed before it is called upon to make a report.
