§ Colonel CLIFTON BROWNasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, in view of the fact that an examination of minors and manipulative grades for posts to the clerical classes is to take place early next year and that the age limit has been reduced from 40 to 30, which new age limit bars those ex-service men who had entered the Civil Service in the messenger grade, he will state the reason for this action?
§ Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCEThe age limit for the competition to which the hon. and gallant Member refers is 30 years, but there was a special extension up to the age of 40 years for the first examination of the series. This arrangement follows the recommendations on the subject made in the agreed Report of the Promotions Committee of the Civil Service National Whitley Council.
