HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 cc54-5W
Viscount LYMINGTON

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether in view of the comparatively small number of young farmers' clubs in existence in the country and of their educational value, he will consider taking steps, both by increased financial aid and propaganda, to increase the number and membership of such clubs throughout the country?

Mr. N. BUXTON

I appreciate highly the value of the Young Farmers' Club Movement and should be very glad to see an increase in the number and membership of clubs. The National Council of Social Service, who are now primarily responsible for the organisation and development of the Movement, already receive a grant from public funds which amounts to £800 for the current year; and. I am at the present moment considering an application from the Council for increased aid. Apart from financial help, my Department will continue to do everything in its power, in co-operation with local authorities and agricultural colleges, to secure to clubs the technical advice and help which are essential to their success.
