HC Deb 09 December 1929 vol 233 cc58-9W
Mr. R. TAYLOR

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of county councils which have submitted schemes for small holdings under the Small Holdings Act, 1926; the number of schemes submitted; the number which have been sanctioned; and the number of small holdings which have been provided by approved schemes to date?

Mr. N. BUXTON

Up to the present date 32 county councils have submitted 126 schemes for the acquisition of land under the Small Holdings and Allotments Act, 1926. 29 schemes were withdrawn either before or after approval; two have been refused and one is still under consideration. The remaining 94 approved schemes comprise an area of 8,683 acres of which, however, 1,125 acres is land that was leased under earlier Acts and has now been purchased. The number of additional holdings provided is 333. The figures given are exclusive of acquisitions not involving a loss to the council; these are not submitted for approval but the number is small.
