§ Sir W. de FRECEasked the Home Secretary the percentage of increase in the cost of the police forces in the country which may be taken as due to the growth of motor traffic; and how much per head of the population this increase represents?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI estimate the present cost of police on traffic duty in the Metropolis to be about £400,000, but I have no comparable figures for the rest of the country. I regret I cannot state to what extent this figure represents an increased charge on the Police Fund on this account.
