§ Mr. DAYasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the present War debt due to Great Britain from Estonia; what amount has been paid by Estonia to reduce this debt, to the last convenient date; and what amount of interest has been received on the capital outstanding?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe debts due to this country by Estonia are:
- (1) The Relief Debt of £251,000.
- (2) The debt of £917,200 for supplies furnished during the Estonian War of Independence.
The Relief Debt is being repaid in 15 years from the 1st, January, 1025, with interest at 5 per cent., and £9,472 0s. 8d. of capital and £43,237 19s. 4d. of interest has been paid in respect of this debt since 1925. The debt for supplies is being repaid in 30 years from 1926 by fixed annuities of £40,000 a year from 1926 to 1940, and £80,000 a year from 1941 to 1955; and £120,000 has been paid up to date.
