§ Sir R. NEVILLEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total cost to the State of the social services (of education, old age pensions, widows' and 264W orphans' pensions, unemployment benefit, health insurance benefits and other medical welfare, or institutional benefits, and housing subsidies) before the War and at the present day; and what does the cost of such social services amount to per head of the estimated population for each of these periods.
§ Mr. CHURCHILLIt is estimated that the total Exchequer contribution in the years specified towards the cost of the social services other than War Pensions named in the annual return of expenditure on Public Social Services in Great Britain was as follows:—
