Mr. J OHNSTONasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can give a list of the burghs and counties of Scotland which have not established infant welfare and maternity centres within their administrative areas?
§ Sir J. GILMOURWhile in the opinion of the Scottish Board of Health every area in Scotland would benefit by the adoption of a maternity service and child welfare scheme providing as a minimum for the services of a medical officer and a health visitor, there are many areas where the provision of a centre is impracticable. I am therefore sending the hon. Member a list showing separately: (1) the areas in which there is no scheme in operation, (2) the areas in which the scheme adopted does not provide for the services of a medical officer and health visitor, and (3) the areas in which a scheme is in operation but no centre has been established.
