HC Deb 27 November 1928 vol 223 c255W
Mr. J OHNSTON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can give a list of the burghs and counties of Scotland which have not established infant welfare and maternity centres within their administrative areas?

Sir J. GILMOUR

While in the opinion of the Scottish Board of Health every area in Scotland would benefit by the adoption of a maternity service and child welfare scheme providing as a minimum for the services of a medical officer and a health visitor, there are many areas where the provision of a centre is impracticable. I am therefore sending the hon. Member a list showing separately: (1) the areas in which there is no scheme in operation, (2) the areas in which the scheme adopted does not provide for the services of a medical officer and health visitor, and (3) the areas in which a scheme is in operation but no centre has been established.
