HC Deb 20 November 1928 vol 222 c1575W
Mr. BENNETT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the cost of the social services per head of the population at 31st March, 1914, and 31st March, 1928, in Great Britain, the United States of America, and in as many as possible of the European countries?

Mr. CHURCHILL

As regards Great Britain, I would ask the hon. Member to await the return which has been moved for the right hon. Member for the Aston Division (Sir E. Cecil). I am afraid there are at present no adequate data for a detailed comparison with other countries, though there is no doubt that the amount per head of population is in general much smaller than in Great Britain.
