HC Deb 20 November 1928 vol 222 c1573W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Labour if he can give any figures as to the number of men who have been given work as a result of the Prime Minister's circular to employers in August last?

Mr. BETTERTON

Since the issue of my right hon. Friend's appeal, the Employment Exchanges have found employment for not less than 5,000 persons from the depressed areas. In addition, as a result of the appeal, men from those areas have obtained work otherwise than through the Employment Exchanges, but the exact number of the latter cannot be given.
