HC Deb 20 November 1928 vol 222 cc1575-6W
Mr. DAY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of betting certificates that have been issued to the last convenient date; and how many applications have been made for betting certificates and have been refused?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I am not yet in a position to complete the figures of bookmakers' and entry certificates issued for the year ending 31st October, 1928, but for the 11 months up to 30th September, 1928, the figures were 14,448 and 7,481 respectively. As regards the last part of the question, I have no information, but I would remind the hon. Member that any bookmaker in respect of whom an order of disqualification has been made by a competent Court would automatically be refused a certificate so long as the order remains in force.
