HC Deb 15 November 1928 vol 222 c1115W
Mr. SHINWELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade the estimated percentage reduction in the costs of production in the manufacture of pig-iron due to the de-rating proposals?

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

It is estimated that the local rate relief on coal, ore and limestone mines and blast furnaces will be equivalent to about 2¼ per cent. of the cost of the production of pig-iron, and that the railway freight reductions on the materials for making pig-iron will be equivalent to a further 2 per cent. of the cost of production.
