HC Deb 15 November 1928 vol 222 cc1131-2W
Mr. BATEY

asked the Attorney-General whether an appointment has been made as chairman of the advisory committee for the appointment of magistrates for the county of Durham which was rendered vacant owing to the death of Lord Durham?

The ATTORNEY - GENERAL

No special appointment is needed. In accordance with the recommendations of the Royal Commission on the Selection of Justices of the Peace, which reported in 1910, the Lord Lieutenant for the time being is a member of the advisory committee, and it has been the invariable practice that he should act as chairman. In accordance with that practice the Marquess of Londonderry has succeeded Lord Durham as the chairman of the Durham County Justices' Advisory Committee.
