HC Deb 15 November 1928 vol 222 c1119W
Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will reintroduce the cross-swords badge for brigadiers, as in the War, in place of the three stars and crown, in view of the relative lack of distinctiveness of the latter?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

No, Sir. Brigadier-generals wore cross-swords as being the badge appropriate to general officers. Brigadiers are not general officers, and it has been decided that they shall wear the badges of rank formerly worn by colonels commandant and colonels on the staff, whose places they have taken.
