HC Deb 15 November 1928 vol 222 cc1126-7W
Sir R. GOWER

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he will consider the advisability of appointing approved inspectors of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to be additional inspectors under the Coal Mines Act, 1911, to examine into the care and treatment of ponies and other animals employed in coal mines?

Commodore KING

No, Sir. The Royal Commission on Mines in their Third Report (Cmd. 5561, 1911) stated that they were not in favour of this proposal and gave their reasons. I see no reason to dissent from that view.
