Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Minister of Health the total sum advanced under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act and the names of all local authorities who have borrowed £200,000 or more, with the estimated population and rateable value and sum advanced; and whether there is any limit to the amount of advances sanctioned by the Ministry in respect of any one local authority?

The total sum advanced by local authorities in England and Wales under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Act between 1st January, 1919, and 30th September, 1928, was approximately £33,500,000. In addition to this, local authorities advanced about £18,100,000 under the somewhat similar provisions of Section 92 of the Housing

Act, 1925. Information is not available as to the local authorities who have borrowed £200,000 or more under these provisions, but the following statement gives the names of the local authorities who have advanced £200,000 or more, together with the further information desired by the hon. Member. There is no Statutory limit to the amount which may be sanctioned to any local authority in respect of their borrowings under the Acts.
