HC Deb 14 November 1928 vol 222 cc915-6W
Mr. COVE

asked the President of the Board of Education what county borough authorities award scholarships or free

schools; how many of each category have up to this date been closed; and how many satisfactorily reconstructed?

Lord E. PERCY

The following statement gives the information for which the right hon. Gentleman asks:

places tenable at institutions for agricultural education; how many are awarded by these authorities; and their value in each instance.

Mr. GUINNESS

The Ministry of Agriculture aids under its regulations for Agricultural Education the cost of one scholarship (the value is £60 for one year) to the Somerset Farm Institute awarded by the county borough of Bristol. I have reason to believe that a few other county boroughs offer facilities to attend courses at agricultural institutions to applicants residing within their respective administrative areas, but I have no definite information as to these facilities or as to the extent to which advantage is taken of them.
