HC Deb 14 November 1928 vol 222 c907W
Sir J. POWER

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the inadequate and unsatisfactory character of the British news supplied to Canadian and South American newspapers; and whether any steps are being taken, in conjunction with British controlled news agencies, to remedy the situation, in view of the adverse political and commercial effect to which it gives rise?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I have been asked to reply. As regards South America, the answer to the first part or the question is in the affirmative. Arty improvement must depend very largely on private enterprise: the advice and assistance of the appropriate Departments are always available and they have given, and are giving, careful study to the matter. As regards Canada, I understand that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Dominions has received no representations on this subject.
