asked the Postmaster-General the number of cable lines and telegraph and telephone trunk circuits that were totally disconnected owing to the recent fire which took place in the Victoria Embankment subway; and whether all these lines are now restored to full service?

The number of Post Office telephone and telegraph circuits disconnected as a result of the fire in the Victoria Embankment subway on 8th September was:

Telegraph 85
Telephone trunks 129
Telephone junctions 1,800
Subscribers' circuits 1,375

All these circuits have been restored.
