HC Deb 13 November 1928 vol 222 c706W
Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that the question of requiring applicants for motor-driving licences to undergo a physical examination is being investigated by the Public Control Committee on the London County Council; and whether his Department will now take up this matter with regard to licences for prospective drivers throughout the whole of the country?

Colonel ASHLEY

I shall be interested to learn the result of the investigation to which my hon. Friend refers. My proposals with regard to the conditions with which applicants for driving licences should comply are contained in Clauses 14 and 15 of the Draft Road Traffic Bill which I caused to be published and circulated last year. Under the existing law, there is no authority for the physical examination of applicants for driving licences.
