§ Mr. HURDasked the hon. Member for Monmouth, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, the extent of the ravages of Dutch elm disease in this country, and the measures by which it is to be combated?
§ Sir L. FORESTIER-WALKERThe survey which was carried out this year has shown that Dutch elm disease is attacking elm trees in 20 counties in the Midlands and South East of England. Pending results from research work now in progress, it is impossible to recommend any measures beyond the destruction of severely infected trees. A leaflet dealing with the disease is in course of preparation.
