§ Mr. SAKLATVALAasked the Postmaster-General why, seeing that 100 members of the staff of the Central Telegraph Office, London, have been asked to retire before reaching the normal retiring age, one member of the staff was recently granted six months' extension over the 714W retiring age; and will he cause inquiries to be made as to the reasons for this apparent discrepancy?
§ Viscount WOLMERThe extension of service, to which the hon. Member refers, is no doubt one of a number granted before the decision was taken to reduce the staff of the Central Telegraph Office. In some cases, where it was found that a curtailment of the extension already granted would cause material inconvenience and hardship to the officers concerned, they have been allowed to remain till the date already notified to them.
