HC Deb 24 May 1928 vol 217 cc2066-7W
Mr. GARDNER

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of several recent cases in the Metropolitan Courts dismissed through uncorroborated police evidence, he will appoint a Select Committee to consider the creation, for Courts of Summary Justice, of the office of a public defender or of a poor persons' committee, analogous to that for the Court of Criminal Appeal?

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I have been asked to reply to this question. No, Sir. The question has recently been considered by the Committee on Legal Aid for the Poor and was reported upon in its First Report, Command Paper 2638.
