Mr. SAMUELThe total number of old age pensions non-contributory (including "blind" pensions) and contributory in payment on the last payment date in March, 1928, was approximately 1,757,000. The total payments in respect of old age pensions during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1928, amounted to approximately £35,830,000, including £3,004,000 in respect of contributory old age pensions to persons between 65 and 70 years of age commencing on or after the 5th January, 1928.
