Commander BELLARSasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the instructions to the British delegates to the Economic Committee of the League of Nations; and, in view of the necessity of safeguarding British trade and promoting Empire trade, whether they are instructed to oppose all proposals for a tariff holiday based on the existing state of world tariffs?
§ Mr. H. WILLIAMSI have been asked to answer this question. The members of the Economic Committee are appointed2078W by the Council of the League of Nations in their personal capacity and are not representatives of Governments. The members of the Economic Consultative Committee are in the same position, and there is, therefore, no question of His Majesty's Government giving instructions to the British members of either Committee.
