§ Mr. W. BAKERasked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the case of the son of Mr. A. Garland, of 15, Alsop Road, Kingswood, Bristol, who has been refused unemployment benefit on the ground that he did not attend at the Bristol juvenile unemployment centre as required by the insurance officer; whether he is aware that Alsop Road is four miles from the training centre, and that no offer of the cost of travelling was made in this case; and whether he will cause inquiries to be made with a view to better arrangements being made in similar cases in future?
§ Mr. BETTERTONMy information is that Mr. Garland lives within four miles of the juvenile unemployment centre at Bristol. In such circumstances the insurance officer normally requires attendance at the centre on alternate days as a condition for the receipt of benefit. The question of paying fares in such circumstances is one which I am having further examined.
