§ Mr. KELLYasked the Minister of Health if he is aware that in the case of certain council houses at Hastings, built under the 1919 Housing Act, part of the accommodation is sub-let unfurnished at a rent as high as, or higher 1901W than, the total rent paid to the council; and if he will take steps to stop this practice immediately or, alternatively, ensure that the part of the subsidy borne by the State funds shall be reduced accordingly?
§ Sir K. WOODThe question of the management of houses erected under the 1919 Housing Act is one for local authorities. I understand that the Hastings Town Council allow sub-letting within reasonable limits but I am not aware whether any steps are taken by the council to avoid excessive rents being charged to sub-tenants. I will, however, make inquiries and inform the hon. Member.
