HC Deb 23 May 1928 vol 217 cc1914-5W
Mr. A. V. ALEXANDER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the reduction in the wholesale price of sugar since the Budget in the case of British refined sugar, home-grown refined sugar, and imported refined sugar, respectively?

Mr. SAMUEL

According to quotations in the London market, I find that the price of Tate's London granulated sugar on 21st May was 3s. 1½d. per cwt. below the price on the day of the Budget, while the price of home-grown granulated had fallen by is. 10½d. per cwt. Current quotations for imported foreign refined sugar are not available, but the price of Czech granulated, f.o.b. Hamburg, has fallen by 6d. per cwt.
