HC Deb 23 May 1928 vol 217 cc1911-2W
Mr. EVERARD

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons unemployed and partly employed in the boot and shoe industry on 1st May, 1926, 1927, and 1928, respectively?

Mr. BETTERTON

I have been asked to reply. The following table shows the numbers of insured persons in Great Britain classified as belonging to the hoot and shoe industry recorded as unemployed at the dates nearest to those mentioned, for which statistics are available.

Date. Wholly Unemployed. Temporarily Stopped. Total.
26th April, 1926 6,637 3,506 10,143
25th April, 1927 6,920 4,687 11,607
23rd April, 1928 5,891 4,287 10,178

The figures relating to persons temporarily stopped include numbers on short time who were not at work on the date to which the figures relate, but separate statistics in respect of these persons are not available.
