HC Deb 23 May 1928 vol 217 c1913W
Mr. VARLEY

asked the Attorney-General whether he is aware of the growing practice of commissioners of oaths to permit affidavits, instead of statutory declarations, to be made in matters not the subject of any judicial inquiry, either pending or at issue, contrary to Section 13 of the Statutory Declarations Act, 1835; and whether he will consult with the Lord Chancellor as to the advisability of issuing a Circular to commissioners of oaths calling their attention to the matter?

The ATTORNEY-GENERAL

I am not aware that the practice suggested in the question is growing or, indeed, exists, but if the hon. Member can furnish me with information to show that such is the case I shall be glad to consider the matter.
