HC Deb 21 May 1928 vol 217 cc1521-2W
Mr. FENBY

asked the Minister of Health whether, seeing that the only method of keeping cream fresh in hot weather, now that preservatives may not be used, is by the use of hermetically sealed tin cans, and that no satisfactory tin can for the purpose is yet on the market, he is prepared to postpone the operation of the Regulations prohibiting the use of preservatives until the farming community is in a position to meet the new situation?

Sir K. WOOD

My right hon. Friend understands that the method of packing cream in hermetically sealed tin cans is already in use, but though it is a satisfactory device, he cannot agree that it is the only method of keeping cream fresh. In any event, as the Regulations were made nearly three years ago, there has been ample time to enable the cream trade to make the necessary arrangements, and my right hon. Friend does not consider that the suggestion in the question affords any justification for suspending the operation of the Regulations.
