HC Deb 21 May 1928 vol 217 cc1522-3W
Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Postmaster-General (1) what steps he has already taken to make the inland telegraph service more speedy and attractive and if he intends to withdraw irritating restrictions, extend the scope of the service, and give greater publicity to its advantages, as recommended in paragraph 65 of the Lever Report;

(2) if, with a view to making more effective and efficient the control of the Post Office, he has taken any steps to restrict the rights of appeal allowed to the staff;

(3) what reduction in the number of the supervising staff of the inland telegraph service has already been made in accordance with the recommendation of the Lever Committee; and what further reduction does he expect to make during the present year?

Viscount WOLMER

I have already stated that effect is being given to some of the recommendations of the Lever Committee. An opportunity will occur for a full discussion upon the telegraph service upon the Post Office Estimates, but I regret I cannot deal with these detailed matters adequately by means of question and answer.
