HC Deb 17 May 1928 vol 217 c1231W
Mr. AMMON

asked the Secretary of State for War the average cost of testing heavy guns at Shoeburyness and the Isle of Grain?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

In the normal course the proof work carried out at Shoeburyness and the Isle of Grain is of ammunition and not of guns. But occasionally heavy gun proof is carried out at Shoeburyness, and the cost in certain recent cases, including a proportion of the overhead charges of the establishment, has worked out at £1,100 for a 16-inch naval gun and £54 for a £4.7-inch naval gun.
