HC Deb 16 May 1928 vol 217 c1050W
Colonel WOODCOCK

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs the total amount that could have been expended in connection with the Empire Settlement Act of 1922 up to the present time for schemes to facilitate settlement or emigration to any part of the Dominions; and what is the actual amount which has been expended from 1922 up to the present time?

Mr. AMERY

If the statutory maximum of expenditure had been reached in each year since the passing of the Empire Settlement Act, the amount expended up to the 31st March, 1928, would have been £16,806,343, which sum includes the amount of advances recovered. The actual expenditure to the 31st March, 1928, was £3,866,061.
