§ Viscount WOLMERI regret that I have no separate figures of the cost of 1485W checking short-paid postcards of Imperial and American destination as distinct from other short-paid correspondence, but in any case this cost would be materially less than the loss of revenue which would follow a reduction in the postcard rate from 1½d. to ld. The notices to the senders to which my Noble Friend refers were sent out for a short period only and involved no serious expense.
