THORNEasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to recent cases of civil servants being sued in the Courts by moneylenders; whether any consideration is being given to the reason for these civil servants having to be sued for the return of money lent; and whether he has any statement to make on the matter?
Mr. SAMUELMy attention has been drawn to one or two recent cases in which civil servants have been sued in the Courts by moneylenders for repayment of loans. The inquiries which I have made do not support the suggestion that these cases were in any way attributable to the methods by which salaries are paid.
