HC Deb 29 June 1928 vol 219 cc857-8W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the professional ice-skaters employed at the Thames Riviera, Hampton Court, have been engaged from a country on the Continent; and on what grounds permits have been granted to these people, in view of the number of professional British ice-skaters out of employment?

Mr. BETTERTON

My right hon. Friend agreed to the admission of these performers for a very limited stay in this country, for the purpose of enabling a demonstration to be given of the possibilities of a species of synthetic ice rink which, I am informed, has not hitherto been in use here.
