HC Deb 09 July 1928 vol 219 c1868W
Mrs. RUNCIMAN

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the total importations of spirits in gallons and the importations of gin for each of the following Colonies, namely, Nigeria, Gold Coast, Sierra Leone and Gambia, for each of the years 1926 and 1927; and the countries from which the total spirits were exported to each of these Colonies?

Mr. AMERY

The figures are as follow in gallons:

1926.

Gold Coast 805,642 735,910
Sierra Leone 36,962 18,090
Gambia 3,971 1,124

Gold Coast 1,295,712 1,181,913
Sierra Leone 38,236 16,622
Gambia 3,674

I have not yet received full details of the imports in 1927, and the figures given for the importation of gin are approximate for that year. In the case of the Gambia I have not yet received any information as to the totals of each kind of spirit. The principal countries of consignment are Holland, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, with small quantities from France and Belgium.
