§ Mr. PARKINSONasked the Minister of Labour how many insured persons were refused benefit at the Wigan Employment Exchange in the months of September and December, 1927, and January, 1928, respectively, and the reasons for the disallowances.
§ Sir A. STEEL MAITLANDpursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 22nd February, 1928, Col. 1592, Vol. 213 supplied the following statement:
§ Mr. BETTERTONStatistics are not available with regard to the number of persons actually in receipt of unemployment benefit. The average number of claims current at the Borough Employment Exchange during the month of January in the years 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928 was 9,754, 6,145, 6,605 and 5,644 respectively. The amounts paid in, benefit were as follows:
