HC Deb 20 December 1928 vol 223 c3241W
Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that on the voyage of the steamship "Portwood," arriving at Derwenthaugh, Newcastle, on or about 3rd December last, it was discovered that no Maritime Board clauses appeared on the articles; and will he renew instructions to ensure that the proper agreements of the crews in the coastwise services are strictly administered?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I am informed that the agreement with the crew of the steamship "Portwood" does not contain any of the additional clauses recommended by the National Maritime Board. The question whether such clauses shall be included in the agreement with the crew of a ship is a matter to be settled between the parties to the agreement. Board of Trade superintendents have standing instructions to this effect.
