HC Deb 18 December 1928 vol 223 cc2838-9W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of Income Tax assessed in England and Wales for the consecutive years 1920–27, inclusive, which is still unpaid, being under appeal or unsettled; and what steps it is proposed to take to clear these accounts and complete the ingathering of this money?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I regret that information as to the total amount of Income Tax outstanding for the years in question is not available. The settlement of liabilities and the recovery of tax in default for past years are constantly proceeding, and the Revenue authorities take all possible steps to secure the payment of any tax that may be outstanding.
