HC Deb 11 December 1928 vol 223 cc1934-5W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Minister of Labour the number of persons in each insurable industry who have ceased to be insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts on account of being over 65 years of age?

Mr. BETTERTON

I am circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT a statement containing such information as is available.

Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has decided to extend the period for the operation of the transitional Clauses of the 1927 Unemployment Insurance Act, or whether he has any statement to make on the matter?

Mr. BETTERTON

I would refer the hon. Member to the statements made by my right hon. Friend in the Debates on the Unemployment Insurance Bill, to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. T. HENDERSON

asked the Minister of Labour whether the gardeners and horticulturists in the employ of public authorities, having been declared outside the scope of the Unemployment Insurance Act, will receive only the amount of contributions paid, or does he intend to add interest on moneys paid to the Government Fund?

Mr. BETTERTON

Refunds of unemployment insurance contributions paid under the erroneous belief that they were payable are governed by the provisions of Section 28 (1) of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920, and the Regulations made thereunder which do not permit of including interest in the amount of contributions returned.
