§ Mr. STAMFORDasked the Minister of Labour whether he will give figures showing the number of applications for unemployment benefit received at the Armley Employment Exchange for the last 12 months and the number of claims rejected during the same period on the grounds that applicants were not satisfying the condition as to genuinely seeking employment?
§ Mr. BETTERTONStatistics of the number of claims at the Armley Employment Exchange disallowed on the ground that the applicants were not genuinely seeking work are not available prior to 19th April, 1928. From 19th April to 12th November, 1928, inclusive, 18,390 fresh and renewal claims were made at the Armley Employment Exchange and 484 claims were disallowed on the ground that the applicants were not genuinely seeking work.
