§ Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGEasked the Postmaster-General if his attention has been called to the correspondence asking for a public call-office at Claxby, at the railway station or other suitable spot; if he is aware that the nearest call-office is four miles away; and if, having in view the difficulty of summoning a doctor in case of need for a population of over 200, he will have one erected?
§ Viscount WOLMERI have seen the correspondence to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers. A public telephone at Claxby would not pay its way, and I should not be justified in providing one except under guarantee. The responsibility for financing unremunerative telephones for emergency use does not rest with the Post Office, which has no funds at its disposal for that purpose. I should be pleased to supply terms as to guarantee under which a telephone can be supplied to the parish council, if so desired.
