HC Deb 05 December 1928 vol 223 c1225W
Mr. DAY

asked the Postmaster-General the number of telephone subscribers with whom his Department has special contracts which are marked "ex-directory" and, accordingly, whose names do not appear in the ordinary telephone directory?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

There are approximately 350,000 telephone lines rented in the London area and about 9,000 subscribers have asked that their names shall not appear in the telephone directory. No figures are available for the provinces, but the number is probably not large.
