HC Deb 05 December 1928 vol 223 c1227W
Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the position of blind persons who are also mentally deficient; and whether, seeing that no adequate provision is made for the transfer of these cases to appropriate colonies and that non-certifiable cases can only be dealt with through the boards of guardians, he will take steps to amend the law in this respect?

Sir K. WOOD

There is at present very little accommodation available for the reception of blind persons who are mentally deficient, but this shortage of accommodation is due to financial stringency and my right hon. Friend sees no necessity for any amending legislation. He hopes a time will come when local authorities will be able to co-operate in providing one or more colonies for these cases.
