HC Deb 04 December 1928 vol 223 c1046W
Mr. JOHNSTON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his attention has again been drawn to the flooding of the River Spey and the consequent damage to agricultural interests and danger to the railway line; and whether he now proposes to take any steps to compel the riparian proprietors to take steps to deal with the chronic flooding of the river?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am aware of the position. At my request, the Board of Agriculture for Scotland approached the county council, and thereafter a conference of the parties interested, at which representatives of the Board of Agriculture and the Board of Health were-present, was convened at Elgin, on 20th November, to discuss the possibility of taking measures to obviate a recurrence of the damage caused through the flooding of the Spey at Garmouth. At present, however, I am unable to say what action may be found possible.
