§ Mr. DAYasked the Home Secretary the number of prosecutions that have taken place during the 12 months ended to the last convenient date, and the convictions secured against persons for having firearms or ammunition in their possession without a licence?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSDuring the year ended 31st December, 1927, there were 618 prosecutions and 486 convictions in Courts of Summary Jurisdiction for various non-indictable offences under the Firearms Act, 1920. Not all the returns indicate the nature of the offence, but it is clear that 396 of the prosecutions, resulting in 313 convictions, were for possession without certificate, and in all probability the great majority of prosecutions and convictions were for that offence.
