HC Deb 25 April 1928 vol 216 cc914-5W
Mr. KELLY

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of quarries in Great Britain in operation in March, 1927, and in March, 1928?

Commodore KING

Information with regard to quarries is only collected annually by my Department, and no figures are therefore available for 1928. In 1927 the number of quarries under the Quarries Act (i.e., quarries more than 20 feet deep in any part) at which work was in progress at some time during the year was about 5,400, or the same as in the previous year.
